So about two months ago, I noticed a spot or two of fluid under my car. Due to how dirty the floor was, unable to tell color. Put some cardboard under to try and catch it.

It's been a very slow leak, seriously like a drop a week. So it hasn't been a major concern, but I'm doing either one more track day this season (and by that, I mean a 3-day event) or a road trip down to run Tail of the Dragon and some other twisty roads. So figured would track it down.

It's the rear main seal for the trans. EFFF. I had my money on it just being the axle seals since they have each been replaced like three times (oh hello that phase in which I tried to drag race a FWD car...)

Blehhhhhhhh. In any case, I'm most likely going to shove it aside till winter when the car is down for storage. I'll top the fluid off and watch it to see if it gets worse. And then go from there.

I figure since the trans will be out, might as well do the clutch and flywheel and all that jazz while it's easy to do. I am a sad panda.

If only you had a clean floor so you can see what color that fluid was.

Tell it to the tenants who lived here before me... The garage was a bit gross, but I've got it cleaned up the best I can. I moved in in June. Short of scrubbing the floor on my hands and knees, I've got it much better. Dunno what cars have been parked there, but that area was badddd. It also seems to bubble up out of the pavement in humid weather. Because the back side of the cardboard has stains, but it's not all the way though so not coming from my car.

I had a remanufactured starter go bad on me and grind all of the teeth from my flywheel…so my engine is coming out tomorrow and new clutch, flywheel, clutch cable, and a few other things are going in. So I feel your pain.

Ugh. My engine is fine, but I know it's only a matter of when. It's pushing about 100 extra hp, and sees many track days.

Yeah. I'm not happy. But at least it's not bad enough to cut my season short, so I can still have a little fun.

Oh man, that sucks. Are you going to have to cut your season short? It sounds like part of said season may have been with myself and the other guys doing the Mountain Run next month.

Don't feel too bad, though. Between now and then I have to replace my tires, clutch, springs, dampers, rear left caliper, and get a full fluid flush.

Unless it suddenly gets much worse, I'm ok to finish out the season. I'll keep an eye on the fluid level, but it seriously is only dripping like a single drop a week. The car isn't driven that much.

The Tail trip is with a bunch of current and former Cobalt owners. It used to be a yearly thing, but it didn't happen last year, and we are still scrambling to get it going this year... I seriously think it's going to fall apart, tbh.
